FAQ

Why choose Soufflet Heritage Collection malts as your key ingredients for your whisky and distilling production?

Our Heritage Collection unites seven renowned malting brands under one banner, combining centuries of tradition with global innovation and sustainable practices. Distillers worldwide trust us for premium malts and yeast solutions, full traceability from field to glass, and reliable, efficient international logistics.

Our portfolio for whisky and distilling includes base distilling malts, lightly to heavily peated malts, rye malt, as well as a wide range of caramel and roasted malts. These malts are crafted for Scotch, bourbon, rye, and innovative craft whiskies. We can also develop customized malts for specific distilling needs.

Yes. Specialty malts such as caramel, roasted, and chocolate malts can be used in moderate proportions to add depth, color, and unique flavor notes to whisky. While base malts provide the enzymes for fermentation, specialty malts help create distinctive signatures that differentiate one whisky from another.

Absolutely. Distillers experimenting with gin, rum, or craft liqueurs often use specialty malts to introduce subtle layers of sweetness, roastiness, or nuttiness. They are a great tool for innovation in the premium spirits segment.

Yes. We produce organic versions of our base and specialty malts, including distilling malts, peated malts, and rye malt. These are certified organic and meet the growing demand for organic whisky and spirits worldwide.

Both types of malts deliver high-quality performance in whisky and spirits production. The difference lies in sourcing and certification: organic malts are produced from barley grown without synthetic fertilizers, pesticides, or GMOs, and are certified to meet organic standards. Conventional malts follow the same rigorous quality and traceability checks but do not require organic certification.

We recommend the Fermentis SafSpirit™ range — including M-1 for Scotch and single malts, USW-6 for bourbon, D-53 for fruity malt whiskies, GR-2 for neutral vodka-style spirits, and HG-1 for high-gravity fermentations.

Yes. All our malts are 100% traceable from the barley field to the distillery. We’re committed to sustainable sourcing, energy efficiency, and reducing environmental impact across our malt houses.

Definitely. With 41 malt houses across 20 countries and an annual capacity of 3.7 million tons, we supply distillers in more than 140 countries. Efficient and reliable logistics is one of our strongest advantages.

Yes. Our specialists can advise on recipe design, malt choice, yeast selection, and distillation outcomes, ensuring consistency and premium spirit quality.
